Keeping An Eye on IPC
Having provided the children with a solid foundation from which to begin learning, it is now time to develop the children's research and recording activities within each subject. Each IPC unit is made up of different subjects, most units containing five or six subjects. So although not every subject is targeted through each IPC unit, there is a balance of subjects across each milepost.

Researching
Within each subject there will be a selection of both research and recording focused learning activities. The research activities are designed to enable children to learn in different ways using a VAK approach. VAK stands for Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic. Everyone has their preferred learning style and the research elements of each subject allow children to experience learning in a variety of ways.

So what kind of learner are you?
Visual learners prefer to use mind maps to represent learning and ideas. They record information in diagrams, writing and pictures. They learn best when they can see the information.

Auditory learners prefer to listen to information and discuss ideas. They learn best when they teach each other and benefit from learning through rhythm and rapping.

Kinaesthetic learners prefer to learn through practical activities. They respond well to being able to physically touch objects and from moving around.

The IPC's research activities are structured in such a way that children are able to experience learning in different ways. As a result an IPC classroom is an active hands on environment where talking about learning is encouraged and developed. Displays also feature strongly, enabling children to continually make connections between different aspects of their learning.

Has your child shared their IPC displays with you?
